One not-so-lovely-day at a convinient store.
While Mother struggling to load the diaper bags and milk on the counter,
Cashier: Lahai, apsal baby akak hitam? (Why is your baby dark')
Mother: *Eyes wide open* HUH??!!!!
Cashier: Baby org Melayu kan selalunyer putih. Anak akak ni hitam. Tgk, perut dia pun hitam. (Malay's baby usually fair. Your baby is dark. See, even the tummy is dark-skinned.)
Mother: *Trying so hard not to give this young lady a good smack on the head* Takpe, hitam pun cantik. (It's alright. Dark is pretty, too.
Cashier: A'ah, dia hitam tapi cantik. Manis. (Yep, she's dark but pretty. Sweet face.)
Mother: *Gave a lame smile and walked out.
DIA KATA ANAK AKU HITAM!!!!!!?????? (SHE SAID MY BABY IS BLACK)
The baby happens to be Hani. Yes, she a little bit darker compared to Imran. But I don't think she's dark-skinned or worse... black. Not that black is not pretty. It's just the way the cashier's use of the word HITAM meant to be a curse or something alike. If she said, 'Anak akak hitam tapi manis.' (' Your baby is dark but have a sweet face.) Then I would definitely won't be so pissed off.
That's my story. The end.
